Essiet is not just living his childhood dream; he’s taking it to new heights as a famous broadcaster. With every word he speaks, he captivates audiences and leaves them in awe.
From a young age, Essiet was spellbound by the eloquence and fluency of broadcasters. Their ability to command attention and convey powerful messages ignited a fire within him. Determined to make his mark in this world, Essiet embarked on a journey that would define his life.
In 1990, at the age of 21, Essiet stepped into the world of broadcasting. He started as a guest artist and, over the course of 11 years, honed his skills and perfected his craft. Today, he proudly presents the renowned program, ‘Afternoon Ride,’ on Radio Akwa Ibom, 90.5, in South South Nigeria. For the past 33 years, Essiet has been the voice that resonates through the airwaves, touching the hearts of listeners far and wide.
But Essiet’s impact extends beyond the borders of Nigeria. Through his program, ‘Afternoon Ride,’ he has had the privilege of conducting telephone interviews with over two thousand world-renowned celebrities. From entertainment icons like Jimmy Cliff and Yvonne Chaka Chaka to esteemed academics, sports legends, and influential figures in current affairs, Essiet has connected with them all.
His achievements have not gone unnoticed. Essiet is not only the first Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) staff member to have a book written about him while still in service, but he has also been recognized by the state government as one of the one hundred most outstanding individuals in their respective fields. Famous People Africa Magazine has named him one of the 35 most amazing Akwa Ibom people of 2022, placing him in the spotlight for his extraordinary contributions.
What sets Essiet apart is not just his remarkable accomplishments, but his unwavering dedication and passion. He has defied expectations, conducting interviews with global celebrities from the confines of a local radio station in Africa. His talent and charisma have even caught the attention of the legendary Larry King, who would undoubtedly take note of this rising star.
Awards have adorned Essiet’s journey, a testament to his exceptional talent. With about fifty prestigious accolades to his name, including commendations from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the AKBC Best Presenter Award, Essiet’s professionalism and impact have been recognized far and wide.
But Essiet’s story doesn’t end here. He is a man of knowledge and continuous growth, having completed a diploma in History and International Studies from the University of Uyo. Born on the 6th of June, 1969, in Ede-Urua village, Eket local government area, he carries the spirit of his roots with him, fueling his drive to inspire and uplift others.
Notably, Essiet’s influence extends beyond Nigeria’s borders. He proudly represented Nigeria last February at the Global Reggae Symposium in Jamaica, an honor bestowed upon him by Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport. To demonstrate the seriousness of his representation, Essiet was granted a visa waiver, a testament to his remarkable talent and the impact he has made on the global stage.
